Magnet power supply for ISABELLE
1979-01-01

The power supply system which will energize the superconducting magnets in the ISABELLE machine consists of some 520 computer-programmable power supplies with outputs ranging from 50 A to 4500 A. Most of the power supplies will be used for the correction of field harmonics, orbit correction and adjustment of the machine working line. During acceleration, ...

Radiation heating from beam loss on ISABELLE ejection septa
1981-01-01

It is anticipated that radiation heating due to beam loss may place severe constraints on the operation of high energy accelerators which utilize superconducting magnets. Losses on ejection septa, assuming an unbunched beam mode of operation, are unavoidable and have direct impact on the design of the extraction system. Calculations of energy deposition densities downstream of ...

Cycle design for the ISABELLE helium refrigerator
1981-01-01

The superconducting magnets for the ISABELLE storage ring/accelerator are designed to be operated at 3.8/sup 0/K using a forced-flow supercritical helium cooling system. The ISABELLE refrigerator has been designed subject to these special requirements. The design output is 13.65 KW of refrigeration below 4.2/sup 0/K (for cooling the ...

Cryogenic systems for large superconducting accelerators/storage rings
1981-01-01

Particle accelerators and storage rings which utilize superconducting magnets have presented cryogenic system designers, as well as magnet designers, with many new challenges. When such accelerators were first proposed, little operational experience existed to guide the design. Two superconducting accelerators, complete with cryogenic ...

Identifying key accelerator components in support of nonproliferation
1999-09-01

Because accelerators, like reactors, can be used to produce special nuclear material, their key components must be controlled. This work identifies the key components of linear accelerators (LINACs) that are critical in the export control regime. The design of LINACs is well documented and easily available to the general public. Schools on ...
