Heavy-ion accelerator research for inertial fusion
1987-08-01

Thermonuclear fusion offers a most attractive long-term solution to the problem of future energy supplies: The fuel is virtually inexhaustible and the fusion reaction is notably free of long-lived radioactive by-products. Also, because the fuel is in the form of a plasma, there is no solid fuel core that could melt down. The DOE supports two major fusion research programs to ...

This reactor has provided Australia with a useful tool for materials testing and neutron beam work. Currently, the reactor is being used to produce most of the ...

USE OF A RADIOISOTOPE METHOD TO MEASURE FLOW IN THE HIFAR LIGHT WATER COOLING CIRCUIT
1962-02-01

A radioisotope method was used to measure the flow in the light water circuit of HIFAR. A mean value of 756 lb/ sec was obtained which is in fair agreement with the conventional Dall tube method. Attempts to measure the flow through individual cooling towers were not entirely successful, but some useful information was obtained. (auth)

MEASUREMENT OF THE PROMPT NEUTRON LIFETIME IN HIFAR
1962-02-01

The reactor transfer function of HIFAR was measured at low power and compared with the calculated response to determine the prompt neutron lifetime. Lifetime values in the range 600 to 800 microseconds, depending on the position of absorbers within the core and reflector, were ob tained with an estimated error of less than 100 microseconds.
