    As part of a continuing study to understand the relationship between valleys and highland resurfacing through geologic mapping, we are continuing to map seven MTM quads in portions of the Margaritifer, Arabia, and Noachis Terrae. Results from this mapping will also help constrain the role and extent of past water in the region. The MTMs are grouped in two different areas: a 4-quadrangle area (-20002, -20007, -25002, -25007) and an L-shaped area (-15017, -20017, -20022) within the region [1-5]. This abstract focuses on the geologic units and history from mapping in the 4-quadrangle area, but includes a brief update on the L-shaped map area.

    As part of a continuing study to understand the relationship between valleys and highland resurfacing through geologic mapping, the authors are continuing to map seven 1:500,000-scale MTM quads in portions of the Margaritifer, Arabia, and Noachis Terrae. Results from this mapping will also help constrain the role and extent of past water in the region. The MTMs are grouped in two different areas within the region and compliment previous mapping in adjacent areas. Three western quads focus on Jones crater and the Himera, Samara, and Loire Valles systems. This abstract focuses on the four eastern quads wherein a large, ancient impact structure, Noachis basin, is flanked on its south and east by a series of valley networks. A solitary valley drains this basin and stretches north-northeast for approximately 450 km, transporting materials into Arabia Terra. Pertinent raster and vector data have been imported and registered using ESRI's ArcMap GIS software. To inspect and quantify stratigraphic relations, crater counts are being compiled in ESRI's ArcView GIS software to make use of crater counting tools specifically developed for planetary mappers. New datasets from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter including 4 CTX images, 31 CRISM multi-spectral pushbroom images, and 4 HiRISE images were incorporated into the project during the third year. The CRISM dataset uses summary parameters with thresholds to select targets for the high-resolution datasets. The befit for mappers is the extensive coverage and general compositional information. Results of a cursory analysis show strong mafic absorptions on the floors of Peta crater and Noachis basin. LCP absorptions occur more often than olivine, however, olivine tends to be denser than both pyroxenes. Olivine and HCP mat indicate relatively younger rocks, which is supported by the occurrence of wrinkle ridges associated with high olivine and HCP absorptions in the Peta crater and Noachis basin floors.

    The Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical (EEE) Parts Information Management System (EPIMS) database was selected by the International Space Station Parts Control Board for providing parts information to NASA managers and contractors. Parts data is transferred to the EPIMS database by converting parts list data to the EP1MS Data Exchange File Format. In general, parts list information received from contractors and suppliers does not convert directly into the EPIMS Data Exchange File Format. Often parts lists use different variable and record field assignments. Many of the EPES variables are not defined in the parts lists received. The objective of this work was to develop an automated system for translating parts lists into the EPIMS Data Exchange File Format for upload into the EPIMS database. Once EEE parts information has been transferred to the EPIMS database it is necessary to screen parts data in accordance with the provisions of the SSQ 25002 Supplemental List of Qualified Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical Parts, Manufacturers, and Laboratories (QEPM&L). The SSQ 2S002 standards are used to identify parts which satisfy the requirements for spacecraft applications. An additional objective for this work was to develop an automated system which would screen EEE parts information against the SSQ 2S002 to inform managers of the qualification status of parts used in spacecraft applications. The EPIMS Database Conversion and SSQ 25002 User Interfaces are designed to interface through the World-Wide-Web(WWW)/Internet to provide accessibility by NASA managers and contractors.

    The phylogenetic diversity of culturable psychrophilic bacteria associated with sea ice from high latitude sea (77 degrees 30'N - 81 degrees 12'N), Canadian Basin and Greenland sea Arctic, was investigated. A total of 37 psychrophilic strains were isolated using three different methods of ( i ) spread plate method: 100 microL of each dilution ice-melt sample was spreaded onto the surface of Marine 2216 agar (DIFCO laboratories, Detroit, MI) and incubated for 2 to 6 weeks at 4 degrees C; ( ii ) bath culture and spread plate method: 1 mL of sample was added to 9mL of NSW (unamended natural seawater, 0.2 microm prefiltered and autoclaved) and incubated for 1 months at - 1 degrees C, then spread plate method was used to isolate bacterial strains from the pre-cultured samples; ( iii ) cold shock, bath culture and spread plate method: samples were exposed to - 20 degrees C for 24h, then bacterial strains isolated by bath culture and spread plate method under aerobic conditions. Nearly half of psychrophilic strains are isolated by using method iii . 16S rDNA nearly full-length sequence analysis reveal that psychrophilic strains fall in two phylogenetic divisions, gamma-proteobacteria (in the genera Colwellia, Marinobacter, Shewanella, Thalassomonas, Glaciecola, Marinomonas and Pseudoalteromonas) and Cytophaga-Flexibacter-Bacteroides (in the genera Flavobacterium and Psychroflexus). Nine of bacterial isolates (BSi20007, BSi20497, BSi20517, BSi20537, BSi20170, BSi20001, BSi20002, BSi20675 and BSi20101) quite likely represent novel species (16S rDNA sequence similarity below 97%). One of strains (BSi20002) from Canadian Basin shows 100% sequence similarity to the Antarctic Weddell sea ice isolate Marinobacter sp. ANT8277, suggesting bacteria may have a bipolar distribution at the species level.     An anisotropic constitutive model based on Non-Associated Flow Rule (Non-AFR), which incorporates plane stress yield functions (Hill's quadratic function and Yld2000-2d by Barlat et al.), was implemented to finite element codes (ABAQUS, LS-DYNA 3D) by using User Material options. By using Non-AFR, Yld2000-2d is capable of predicting more than four ears which is possible only with Yld2004 by Barlat et al. when used with an Associated Flow Rule. A short review of the Non-Associated Flow Rule was provided. Simulation of the cup drawing process for a rigid container sheet alloy using mini-die geometry was performed to show the cup height profile (earing profile) obtained from Non-AFR. The simulation results were compared with experimental earing profile data and it was shown that the simulations using Yld2000-2d and the Non-AFR led to the excellent prediction of the earing profile.

The parameters of these functions were derived from the material properties that were obtained from uniaxial tensile tests and bulge test. The flow curve based on Kim-Tuan model and plastic behaviors obtained from two above-mentioned approaches were imported into a finite element analysis code to simulate the hydraulic bulge test for this material to confirm the precision of material characteristics achieved before. The simulation results based on the NAFR-Hill48 match well with the experiment results of bulge test while the YLD2000-2d provides highly accurate predictions for anisotropy of this material.

    Earing tendency in a deep drawn cup of circular blanks is one the most prominent characteristics observed due to anisotropy in a metal sheet. Such formation of uneven rim is mainly due to dissimilarity in yield stress as well as Lankford parameter (r- value) in different orientations. In this paper, an analytical function coupled with different yield functions viz., Hill 1948, Barlat 1989 and Barlat Yld 2000-2d has been used to provide an approximation of earing profile. In order to validate the results, material parameters for yield functions and hardening rule have been calibrated for ASS 304 at 250°C and deep drawing experiment is conducted to measure the earing profile. The predicted earing profiles based on analytical results have been validated using experimental earing profile. Based on this analysis, Barlat Yld 2000-2d has been observed to be a well suited yield model for deep drawing of ASS 304, which also confirms the reliability of analytical function for earing profile estimation.

    The effect of the method used to determine the material parameters of a yield function on the accuracy of the forming limit strains predicted using the Marciniak-Kuczyński-type (M-K) forming limit analysis for a 5000 series aluminum alloy sheet is investigated. A tube subjected to tension-expansion loading under linear paths in the first quadrant of the stress space are performed to measure the multiaxial plastic deformation behavior and the forming limit strains of the test material. The anisotropic parameters and the exponent of the Yld2000-2d yield function (Barlat et al, 2003) are optimized to approximate the contours of the plastic work and/or the directions of the plastic strain rates. The M-K analyses are performed using the different model identifications based on the Yld2000-2d yield function. It is concluded that the yield function best capturing both the plastic work contours and the directions of the plastic strain rates leads to the most accurate predicted forming limit strains.

  3. Silk Damping at a Redshift of a Billion: New Limit on Small-Scale Adiabatic Perturbations

    We study the dissipation of small-scale adiabatic perturbations at early times when the Universe is hotter than T ≃0.5 keV. When the wavelength falls below the damping scale kD-1, the acoustic modes diffuse and thermalize, causing entropy production. Before neutrino decoupling, kD is primarily set by the neutrino shear viscosity, and we study the effect of acoustic damping on the relic neutrino number, primordial nucleosynthesis, dark-matter freeze-out, and baryogenesis. This sets a new limit on the amplitude of primordial fluctuations of ΔR2<0.007 at 104 Mpc-1≲k ≲105 Mpc-1 and a model-dependent limit of ΔR2≲0.3 at k ≲1020-25 Mpc-1.

    To examine the deformation characteristic of type 5000 and 6000 aluminum alloy sheets, uniaxial tension, biaxial stretching and in-plane cyclic tension-compression experiments were performed, and from these, r-values (r{sub 0}, r{sub 45} and r{sub 90}), yield loci and cyclic stress-strain responses were obtained. For the accurate description of anisotropies of the materials, high-ordered anisotropic yield functions, such as Gotoh's biquadratic yield function and Barlat's Yld2000-2d, are necessary. Furthermore, for the simulation of cyclic behavior, an advanced kinematic hardening model, such as Yoshida-Uemori model (Y-U model), should be employed. The effect of the selection of material models on the accuracy of the springback prediction was discussed by performing hat bending FE simulation using several yield functions and two types of hardening laws (the isotropic hardening model and Y-U model).

    In an effort to reduce the weight of vehicles, automotive companies are replacing conventional steel parts with light weight alloys and/or with advanced high strength steels (AHSS) such as dual-phase (DP), twinning induced plasticity (TWIP), and transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) steels. The main objective of this work is to experimentally and numerically evaluate the macro-performance of the automotive TWIP sheet in conjunction with springback. In order to characterize the mechanical properties, simple tension and tension-compression tests were performed to determine anisotropic properties, as well as the Bauschinger, transient, and permanent softening behaviors during reverse loading. For numerical simulations, the anisotropic yield function Yld2000-2d was utilized along with the combined isotropic-kinematic hardening law based on the modified Chaboche model. Springback verification was performed for the unconstrained cylindrical bending and 2D draw bending tests.

  6. Estimation of viscous dissipation in nanodroplet impact and spreading

    The developments in nanocoating and nanospray technology have resulted in the increasing importance of the impact of micro-/nanoscale liquid droplets on solid surface. In this paper, the impact of a nanodroplet on a flat solid surface is examined using molecular dynamics simulations. The impact velocity ranges from 58 m/s to 1044 m/s, in accordance with the Weber number ranging from 0.62 to 200.02 and the Reynolds number ranging from 0.89 to 16.14. The obtained maximum spreading factors are compared with previous models in the literature. The predicted results from the previous models largely deviate from our simulation results, with mean relative errors up to 58.12%. The estimated viscous dissipation is refined to present a modified theoretical model, which reduces the mean relative error to 15.12% in predicting the maximum spreading factor for cases of nanodroplet impact.

  7. Biaxial Tensile Test of Cold Rolled IF Steel Sheet for Large Plastic Strain Range

    Deformation behavior of cold rolled IF steel sheet (SPCE) under biaxial tension has been investigated for large plastic strain range over 15%. The test material was bent and TIG welded to form a tubular specimen with an outer diameter of 46.2 mm and wall thickness of 0.8 mm. The tubular specimens have been subjected to linear stress paths in the first quadrant of stress space with the use of a servo-controlled tension-internal pressure testing machine developed by one of the authors [T. Kuwabara, K. Yoshida, K. Narihara, S. Takahashi, Anisotropic plastic deformation of extruded aluminum alloy tube under axial forces and internal pressure, Int. J. Plasticity 21, 101-117 (2005)]. Moreover, biaxial tensile tests using a cruciform specimen have also been carried out to more precisely measure the deformation behavior for a small strain range following initial yielding. True stress-true plastic strain curves, contours of plastic work in stress space and the directions of plastic strain rates have been measured and compared with those calculated using selected yield functions: the von Mises, Hill's quadratic and Yld2000-2d [Barlat, F., Brem, J.C., Yoon, J.W., Chung, K., Dick, R.E., Lege, D.J., Pourboghrat, F., Choi, S.H., Chu, E., Plane stress yield function for aluminum alloy sheets—Part 1: Theory. Int. J. Plasticity 19, 1297-1319 (2003)]. The plastic deformation behavior up to a work equivalent plastic strain of ɛ0p = 0.19 has been successfully measured. It is found that the test material exhibits differential hardening and that the Yld2000-2d yield function with an exponent of six most closely predicts the contours of plastic work and the directions of plastic strain rates.

  8. Association Between Specific Depression Symptoms and Glycemic Control Among Patients With Comorbid Type 2 Diabetes and Provisional Depression

    Objective: To determine whether specific depression symptoms are associated with glycemic control independent of potential demographic and clinical covariates among primary care patients with comorbid type 2 diabetes and provisional threshold or subthreshold depression. Method: We examined a convenience sample of patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and provisional threshold or subthreshold depression (N = 82) at 2 family health centers. Cases were identified using a population-based registry of patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (ICD-9 codes 250.00 for controlled type 2 diabetes and 250.02 for uncontrolled type 2 diabetes). Data from patients with a primary care provider appointment from the beginning of April 2011 through the end of June 2012 and with at least one 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) depression screener and a glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) laboratory test between 2 weeks before and 10 weeks after PHQ-9 screening were eligible for inclusion. We defined provisional threshold or subthreshold depression using PHQ-9 scoring criteria, which were designed to yield provisional diagnostic information about major depressive disorder based on DSM-5 diagnostic criteria. Results: Patients reporting higher severity of sleep problems on the PHQ-9 had significantly higher HbA1c levels (mean = 8.48, SD = 2.17) compared to patients reporting lower severity or absence of this symptom (mean = 7.19, SD = 1.34, t48.88 = −3.13, P = .003). Problems with sleep contributed unique variance on glycemic control (β = 0.27, P = .02) when controlling for potential clinical and demographic covariates, with those reporting more sleep difficulties having higher HbA1c levels. Conclusions: For patients with type 2 diabetes and provisional threshold or subthreshold depression, it may be prudent to aggressively address sleep problems as a potential mechanism toward improving diabetes control.   9. PVC membrane based potentiometric sensors for uranium determination.

    Two novel uranyl PVC matrix membrane sensors responsive to uranyl ion are described. The first sensor incorporates tris(2-ethylhexyl)phosphate (TEHP) as both electroactive material and plasticizer and sodium tetraphenylborate (NaTPB) as an ion discriminator. The sensor displays a rapid and linear response for UO(2)(2+) ions over the concentration range 1x10(-1)-2x10(-5) mol l(-1) UO(2)(2+) with a cationic slope of 25.0+/-0.2 mV decade(-1). The working pH range is 2.8-3.6 and the life span is 4 weeks. The second sensor contains O-(1,2-dihydro-2-oxo-1-pyridyl)-N,N,N',N'-bis(tetra-methylene)uronium hexafluorophosphate (TPTU) as a sensing material, sodium tetraphenylborate as an ion discriminator and dioctyl phenylphosphonate (DOPP) as a plasticizer. Linear and stable response for 1x10(-1)-5x10(-5) mol l(-1) UO(2)(2+) with near-Nernstian slope of 27.5+/-0.2 mV decade(-1) are obtained. The working pH range is 2.5-3.5 and the life span of the sensor is 6 weeks. Interference from many inorganic cations is negligible for both sensors. However, interference caused by some ions (e.g. Th(4+), Cu(2+), Fe(3+)) is eliminated by a prior ion exchange or solvent extraction step. Direct potentiometric determination of as little as 5 mug ml(-1) uranium in aqueous solutions shows an average recovery of 97.2+/-1.3%. Application for the determination of uranium at levels of 0.01-1 wt.% in naturally occurring and certified ores gives results with good correlation with data obtained by X-ray fluorescence.

  10. Requirement of myomaker-mediated stem cell fusion for skeletal muscle hypertrophy

    Fusion of skeletal muscle stem/progenitor cells is required for proper development and regeneration, however the significance of this process during adult muscle hypertrophy has not been explored. In response to muscle overload after synergist ablation in mice, we show that myomaker, a muscle specific membrane protein essential for myoblast fusion, is activated mainly in muscle progenitors and not myofibers. We rendered muscle progenitors fusion-incompetent through genetic deletion of myomaker in muscle stem cells and observed a complete reduction of overload-induced hypertrophy. This blunted hypertrophic response was associated with a reduction in Akt and p70s6k signaling and protein synthesis, suggesting a link between myonuclear accretion and activation of pro-hypertrophic pathways. Furthermore, fusion-incompetent muscle exhibited increased fibrosis after muscle overload, indicating a protective role for normal stem cell activity in reducing myofiber strain associated with hypertrophy.   11. Lithospheric flexure revealed by Pleistocene emerged marine terraces on the southern Hawaiian Islands

    New field and geochronological data from emerged marine deposits in the southern Hawaiian Islands suggest uplift of the islands of Molokai, Lanai and Oahu. Corals from these islands were dated by ESR. The accumulated dose for aragonitic coral at ESR signal, g = 2.0007, was determined by the additive dose method. The environmental dose rate was estimated from the Uranium concentration in corals and by using an estimate of 2.5 rad/a for the cosmic ray dose. The ESR ages of the highest terraces on Molokai are 290 [+-] 31 ka (30 m), on Lanai 217 [+-] 19 ka (50 m) and on Oahu 468 [+-] 36 ka (28 m). The age and elevation of the marine terraces are interpreted to imply uplift during the Late Quaternary. Lithospheric flexure combined with horizontal plate motion is proposed as a mechanism to describe the pattern of uplifted terraces on these islands. Using two-dimensional elastic plate models, the height of maximum bulge is approximately 4% to 7% of the maximum deflection for a continuous or broken plate model. Drowned reefs off Hawaii indicate subsidence of 1 km since 340 ka. Thus, the magnitude of observed uplift (30--50 m) is consistent with theoretical maximum bulge heights derived from numerical results.

  12. Vulnerability to temperature-related mortality in Seoul, Korea

    Studies indicate that the mortality effects of temperature may vary by population and region, although little is known about the vulnerability of subgroups to these risks in Korea. This study examined the relationship between temperature and cause-specific mortality for Seoul, Korea, for the period 2000-7, including whether some subgroups are particularly vulnerable with respect to sex, age, education and place of death. The authors applied time-series models allowing nonlinear relationships for heat- and cold-related mortality, and generated exposure-response curves. Both high and low ambient temperatures were associated with increased risk for daily mortality. Mortality risk was 10.2% (95% confidence interval 7.43, 13.0%) higher at the 90th percentile of daily mean temperatures (25 °C) compared to the 50th percentile (15 °C). Mortality risk was 12.2% (3.69, 21.3%) comparing the 10th (-1 °C) and 50th percentiles of temperature. Cardiovascular deaths showed a higher risk to cold, whereas respiratory deaths showed a higher risk to heat effect, although the differences were not statistically significant. Susceptible populations were identified such as females, the elderly, those with no education, and deaths occurring outside of a hospital for heat- and cold-related total mortality. Our findings provide supportive evidence of a temperature-mortality relationship in Korea and indicate that some subpopulations are particularly vulnerable.

  13. Assessment of extravascular lung water by quantitative ultrasound and CT in isolated bovine lung.

    Lung ultrasonography (LUS) and computed tomography (CT) were compared for quantitative assessment of extravascular lung water (EVLW) in 10 isolated bovine lung lobes. LUS and CT were obtained at different inflation pressures before and after instillation with known amounts of hypotonic saline. A video-based quantitative LUS analysis was superior to both single-frame quantitative analysis and visual scoring in the assessment of EVLW. Video-based mean LUS intensity was strongly correlated with EVLW density (r(2)=0.87) but weakly correlated with mean CT attenuation (r(2)=0.49) and physical density (r(2)=0.49). Mean CT attenuation was weakly correlated with EVLW density (r(2)=0.62) but strongly correlated with physical density (r(2)=0.99). When the effect of physical density was removed by partial correlation analysis, EVLW density was significantly correlated with video-based LUS intensity (r(2)=0.75) but not mean CT attenuation (r(2)=0.007). In conclusion, these findings suggest that quantitative LUS by video gray-scale analysis can assess EVLW more reliably than LUS visual scoring or quantitative CT.

  14. [Response of forest bird communities to forest gap in winter in southwestern China].

    Although forest gap ecology is an important field of study, research remains limited. By plot setting and point counted observation, the response of birds to forest gaps in winter as well as bird distribution patterns in forest gaps and intact canopies were studied in a north tropical monsoon forest of southwestern China from November 2011 to February 2012 in the Fangcheng Golden Camellia National Nature Reserve, Guangxi. The regression equation of bird species diversity to habitat factor was Y1=0.611+0.002 X13+0.043 X2+0.002 X5-0.003 X8+0.006 X10+0.008 X1 and the regression equation of bird species dominance index to habitat factor was Y3=0.533+0.001 X13+0.019 X2+0.002 X3-0.017 X4+0.002 X1. There were 45 bird species (2 orders and 13 families) recorded in the forest gap, accounting for 84.9% of all birds (n=45), with an average of 9.6 species (range: 2-22). Thirty-nine bird species (5 orders and 14 families) were recorded in non-gap areas, accounting for 73.6% of all birds (n=39), with an average of 5.3 species (range: 1-12). These results suggested that gap size, arbor average height (10 m from gap margin), arbor quantity (10 m from gap margin), shrub quantity (10 m from gap margin), herbal average coverage (1 m from gap margin) and bare land ratio were the key forest gap factors that influenced bird diversities. On the whole, bird diversity in the forest gap was greater than in the intact canopy. Spatial distributions in the forest gaps were also observed in the bird community. Most birds foraged in the "middle" and "canopy" layers in the vertical stratification. In addition, "nearly from" and "close from" contained more birds in relation to horizontal stratification. Feeding niche differentiation was suggested as the main reason for these distribution patterns.

  15. Theory of electron g-tensor in bulk and quantum-well semiconductors

    We present quantitative calculations for the electron g-tensors in bulk and quantum-well semiconductors based on a generalized P.p envelope function theory solved in a fourteen-band restricted basis set. The dependences of g-tensor on structure, magnetic field, carrier density, temperature, and spin polarization have been explored and will be described. It is found that at temperatures of a few Kelvin and fields of a few Tesla, the g-tensors for bulk semiconductors develop quasi-steplike dependences on carrier density or magnetic field due to magnetic quantization, and this effect is even more pronounced in quantum-well semiconductors due to the additional electric quantization along the growth direction. The influence of quantum confinement on the electron g-tensors in QWs is studied by examining the dependence of electron g-tensors on well width.   16. Orbits of 12 Southern Binaries Based on Soar Speckle Observations

    New data obtained with the 4.1 m Southern Astrophysical Research (SOAR) telescope at Cerro Pachón, Chile, allowed us to revise the orbits and system masses of the following southern visual double stars: WDS 01477-4358 (I 52), WDS 01500-0408 (A 2602), WDS 02514-2139 (DON 43), WDS 03189-0101 (BU 1177), WDS 04142-4608 (RST 2338), WDS 06274-2544 (B 114), WDS 18434-5546 (B 398), WDS 20002-5522 (B 459 BC), WDS 20081-3929 (RST 2134), WDS 22007-5002 (I 1450), and WDS 22504-1744 (DON 1038—BD-18 6201). In addition, the orbit of the WDS 15332-2429 Aa, Ab (CHR 232 Aa, Ab) system was calculated for the first time. When available, we used the Hipparcos parallax to check the accuracy of our calculations of individual masses. In some cases, the dynamical parallaxes directly obtained from the orbital elements may be more valid than the satellite data. As far as the lack of spectral data and parallax associated with the WDS 22504-1744 (DON 1038 or BD-18 6201) system is concerned, we were able to assign a spectral type using the orbital elements along with the dynamical parallax and photometric information available. Other orbital and physical properties of these stars are also discussed herein. Based on observations obtained at the Southern Astrophysical Research (SOAR) telescope under CNTAC proposal CN2015B6.

  17. Springback evaluation of friction stir welded TWB automotive sheets

    Springback behavior of automotive friction stir welded TWB (tailor welded blank) sheets was experimentally investigated and the springback prediction capability of the constitutive law was numerically validated. Four automotive sheets, aluminum alloy 6111-T4, 5083-H18, 5083-O and dual-phase DP590 steel sheets, each having one or two different thicknesses, were considered. To represent mechanical properties, the modified Chaboche type combined isotropic-kinematic hardening law was utilized along with the non-quadratic orthogonal anisotropic yield function, Yld2000-2d, while the anisotropy of the weld zone was ignored for simplicity. For numerical simulations, mechanical properties previously characterized [1] were applied. For validation purposes, three springback tests including the unconstrained cylindrical bending, 2-D draw bending and OSU draw-bend tests were carried out. The numerical method performed reasonably well in analyzing all verification tests and it was confirmed that the springback of TWB as well as of base samples is significantly affected by the ratio of the yield stress with respect to Young's modulus and thickness.

  18. Magnetic Field Line Topology of the Scrape-Off Layer in the Compact Stellarator NCSX

    The magnetic topology of the plasma boundary of the proposed compact stellarator NCSX is investigated using the MFBE[1] and VMEC2000[2] codes. The VMEC code provides a free boundary equilibrium and the magnetics from external coils and bootstrap plasma currents inside the last closed magnetic surface (LCMS). The MFBE code uses these results to calculate the magnetic fields of these finite beta equilibria outside the LCMS in a form suitable for line tracing. The Poincaré plots of field lines started outside the LCMS indicate preservation of initial radial ordering of field lines up to intersections with vacuum vessel and plasma facing components. A large flux expansion of field lines is observed between the midplane and tips of the banana shaped cross-section, due to the presence of a nearby poloidal field null used to create the banana shape. TRIM coils used to heal islands just within the LCMS appear to reduce stochasticity just outside the LCMS as well as enhance an island structure outside the LCMS. Field lines are observed to move in and out radially as they are followed toroidally. Power and particle control design based on these observations include the limiting structure geometry and baffles designed to intersect islands outside the LCMS.   19. Effect of Evolutionary Anisotropy on Earing Prediction in Cylindrical Cup Drawing

    The formability of sheet metals is associated with their planar anisotropy, and finite element simulations have been applied to the sheet metal-forming process by describing the anisotropic behaviors using yield functions and hardening models. In this study, the evaluation of anisotropic constitutive models was performed based on the non-uniform height profile or earing in circular cylindrical cup drawing. Two yield functions, a quadratic Hill1948 and a non-quadratic Yld2000-2d model, were used under non-associated and associated flow rules, respectively, to simultaneously capture directional differences in yield stress and r value. The effect of the evolution of anisotropy on the earing prediction was also investigated by employing simplified equivalent plastic strain rate-dependent anisotropic coefficients. The computational results were in good agreement with experiments when the proper choice of the yield function and flow rule, which predicts the planar anisotropy, was made. Moreover, the accuracy of the earing profile could be significantly enhanced if the evolution of anisotropy between uniaxial and biaxial stress states was additionally considered.

  20. Korringa-Like Nuclear Spin-Lattice Relaxation in a 2DES at ν= 1/2

    Via a resistively-detected NMR technique, the nuclear spin lattice relaxation time T1 of ^71Ga at low temperatures has been measured in a GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure containing two weakly-coupled 2D electron systems (2DES), each at Landau level filling ν= 1/2. Incomplete electronic spin polarization, which has been reported previously [1,2] for low density 2DESs at ν= 1/2, should facilitate hyperfine- coupled nuclear spin relaxation owing to the presence of both electron spin states at the Fermi level.   1. Role of Physique on Probability of Injury to the Neck

    The primary emphasis in governmental regulation for the prevention and mitigation of automotive trauma tends to be restricted to just a few human surrogates; for example, most Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards in the United States involve a 50th-percentile male. This practice is known to conflict with real life, and it can lead to the problem of having safety equipment that is designed to protect some people but can kill or seriously injure others. The influence of physique on neck injury potential is best determined by isolating it as the sole variable in an insult, a constraint satisfied only when there are isokinetic and isogeometric conditions. The latter require there to be pairs of same-vehicle occupants, which are much less common than those relating to the effect of other parameters for impact[1] and environment[2]. Among a possible 60 or so such pairs in the large patient cohort assembled for this study, various subsets were identified as being suitable for detailed research on neck injury and the results of this are reported here.     The Bordeaux observatory astrometric group has made significant efforts to produce and exploit large data base surveys. This effort has been undertaken to extend and enrich the ICRS marterialized using Tycho2 catalogue. It includes the systematic re-observation of the Bordeaux Carte du Ciel zone with the Bordeaux automatic CCD meridian circle ; it also contains the digitization of ancient plate archive and the exploitation of large sky surveys such as the AC2000.2 catalogue, the USNO-A2.0 catalogue and the unpublished Yellow Sky (YS3) USNO catalogue. The whole effort led to the construction of three astrometric catalogues (M2000 [Rapaport et al. 2001], PM2000 [Ducourant et al. 2005] and CdC2000 [Rapaport et al. 2005]) of positions and proper motions (sigma 1-6 mas/yr) down to V 16.4 for 1/20 of the celestial sphere. The high precision achieved, allowed us to test the precision of the present day reference catalogues such as 2MASS and UCAC2 and to reveal systematic offsets in them. Due to its accurate proper motions, this catalogue offers a rich database for the cinematic analysis of Galactic stellar populations.

  3. Effect of the r-value change on the forming limit analysis for a ultra-low carbon steel sheet

    The effect of the r-value change on the accuracy of the forming limits predicted using the Marciniak-Kuczynski-type (M-K) forming limit analysis for a cold rolled interstitial- free (IF) steel sheet is investigated. Uniaxial tensile tests with a digital image correlation system are used to measure the r-value change. A tube subjected to tension-expansion loading under linear paths in the first quadrant of the stress space are performed to measure the multiaxial plastic deformation behavior and the forming limits of the test material. The observed differential hardening (DH) behavior is approximated by changing the material parameters of the Yld2000-2d yield function (Barlat et al, 2003) as functions of the reference plastic strain. The M-K analyses are performed using the r-value change and r-value constant DH model. It is concluded that the DH model considering the r-value change leads to the more accurate predicted forming limits.

  4. Rendering and Compositing Infrastructure Improvements to VisIt for Insitu Rendering

    Compared to posthoc rendering, insitu rendering often generates larger numbers of images, as a result rendering performance and scalability are critical in the insitu setting. In this work we present improvements to VisIt's rendering and compositing infrastructure that deliver increased performance and scalability in both posthoc and insitu settings. We added the capability for alpha blend compositing and use it with ordered compositing when datasets have disjoint block domain decomposition to optimize the rendering of transparent geometry. We also made improvements that increase overall efficiency by reducing communication and data movement and have addressed a number of performance issues. We structured our code to take advantage of SIMD parallelization and use threads to overlap communication and compositing. We tested our improvements on a 20 core workstation using 8 cores to render geometry generated from a $256^3$ cosmology dataset and on a Cray XC31 using 512 cores to render geometry generated from a $2000^2 \\times 800$ plasma dataset. Our results show that ordered compositing provides a speed up of up to $4 \\times$ over the current sort first strategy. The other improvements resulted in modest speed up with one notable exception where we achieve up to $40 \\times$ speed up of rendering and compositing of opaque geometry when both opaque and transparent geometry are rendered together. We also investigated the use of depth peeling, but found that the implementation provided by VTK is substantially slower,both with and without GPU acceleration, than a local camera order sort.

  5. Seed dressing pesticides on springtails in two ecotoxicological laboratory tests.

    Terrestrial ecotoxicological tests are powerful tools for assessing the ecological risks that pesticides pose to soil invertebrates, but they are rarely used to evaluate seed dressing pesticides. This study investigated the effects of seed dressing pesticides on survival and reproduction of Folsomia candida (Collembola), using standardized ecotoxicological tests (after ISO guidelines with few adaptations for tropical conditions). Commercial formulations of five seed dressing pesticides were tested individually in Tropical Artificial Soil (TAS): the insecticides imidacloprid, fipronil, thiametoxam, and the fungicides captan and carboxin+thiram. Thiametoxam, captan, and carboxin+thiram were only lethal to F. candida at the highest concentration tested (1000mg of active ingredient kg(-1) of dry soil). Imidacloprid and fipronil were lethal at lower concentrations (100 and 10mg a.i. kg(-1) soil d.w, respectively), however, these concentrations were much higher than those predicted (PEC) for soil. Imidacloprid and fipronil were the most toxic pesticides in both tests, reducing significantly collembolan reproduction (EC20=0.02 and 0.12mga.i.kg(-1) soil d.w, respectively). Further studies under more realistic conditions are needed, since imidacloprid and fipronil reduced collembolan reproduction at concentrations below or close to their respective PECs.

  6. A SNP resource for Douglas-fir: de novo transcriptome assembly and SNP detection and validation

    Background Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii), one of the most economically and ecologically important tree species in the world, also has one of the largest tree breeding programs. Although the coastal and interior varieties of Douglas-fir (vars. menziesii and glauca) are native to North America, the coastal variety is also widely planted for timber production in Europe, New Zealand, Australia, and Chile. Our main goal was to develop a SNP resource large enough to facilitate genomic selection in Douglas-fir breeding programs. To accomplish this, we developed a 454-based reference transcriptome for coastal Douglas-fir, annotated and evaluated the quality of the reference, identified putative SNPs, and then validated a sample of those SNPs using the Illumina Infinium genotyping platform. Results We assembled a reference transcriptome consisting of 25,002 isogroups (unique gene models) and 102,623 singletons from 2.76 million 454 and Sanger cDNA sequences from coastal Douglas-fir. We identified 278,979 unique SNPs by mapping the 454 and Sanger sequences to the reference, and by mapping four datasets of Illumina cDNA sequences from multiple seed sources, genotypes, and tissues. The Illumina datasets represented coastal Douglas-fir (64.00 and 13.41 million reads), interior Douglas-fir (80.45 million reads), and a Yakima population similar to interior Douglas-fir (8.99 million reads). We assayed 8067 SNPs on 260 trees using an Illumina Infinium SNP genotyping array. Of these SNPs, 5847 (72.5%) were called successfully and were polymorphic. Conclusions Based on our validation efficiency, our SNP database may contain as many as ~200,000 true SNPs, and as many as ~69,000 SNPs that could be genotyped at ~20,000 gene loci using an Infinium II array—more SNPs than are needed to use genomic selection in tree breeding programs. Ultimately, these genomic resources will enhance Douglas-fir breeding and allow us to better understand landscape-scale patterns of genetic variation

  7. Evaluation of SCaMPR Satellite QPEs for Operational Hydrologic Prediction

    National Weather Service (NWS) River Forecast Centers (RFCs) use rain gauge or radar-gauge multi-sensor quantitative precipitation estimates (QPEs) as the primary rainfall input to their operational hydrologic models. In areas with poor radar and rain gauge coverage, satellite-based QPEs are a potential alternative. In this work, we evaluated the utility of satellite-based QPEs produced via the Self-Calibrating Multivariate Precipitation Retrieval (SCaMPR) algorithm for operational hydrologic modeling for a set of basins in Texas and Louisiana for the period of 2000-7. First, we assessed the relative accuracy of two sets of SCaMPR QPEs versus gauge-only QPE, with operational multi-sensor QPEs as the reference. One set used only operational polar orbiting satellite microwave input as the predictors, the other included Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) rain rates in the calibration process. We then performed hydrologic simulations using these QPEs and evaluated the simulations. Results indicated that a) SCaMPR QPEs showed better/worse skill than the gauge-only QPEs in resolving heavy precipitation at 1-h/24-h time intervals in terms of Critical Success Index (CSI); b) SCaMPR QPEs underperformed gauge-only QPEs in simulating flood events; and c) ingesting TRMM rainfall rates helped enhance the hydrologic utility of SCaMPR QPE, by mitigating the positive bias of SCaMPR QPEs, elevating the detection rates of heavy rainfall, and improving the simulation of flood discharge. Our findings suggest that the superior performance of gauge-only QPEs versus SCaMPR in hydrologic simulations is tied to its better accuracy at 24-h scale. The implication of the scale dependence in the relative performance of SCaMPR QPEs to their potential hydrologic utility is discussed.

  8. Increasing ankle push-off work with a powered prosthesis does not necessarily reduce metabolic rate for transtibial amputees.

    Amputees using passive ankle-foot prostheses tend to expend more metabolic energy during walking than non-amputees, and reducing this cost has been a central motivation for the development of active ankle-foot prostheses. Increased push-off work at the end of stance has been proposed as a way to reduce metabolic energy use, but the effects of push-off work have not been tested in isolation. In this experiment, participants with unilateral transtibial amputation (N=6) walked on a treadmill at a constant speed while wearing a powered prosthesis emulator. The prosthesis delivered different levels of ankle push-off work across conditions, ranging from the value for passive prostheses to double the value for non-amputee walking, while all other prosthesis mechanics were held constant. Participants completed six acclimation sessions prior to a data collection in which metabolic rate, kinematics, kinetics, muscle activity and user satisfaction were recorded. Metabolic rate was not affected by net prosthesis work rate (p=0.5; R(2)=0.007). Metabolic rate, gait mechanics and muscle activity varied widely across participants, but no participant had lower metabolic rate with higher levels of push-off work. User satisfaction was affected by push-off work (p=0.002), with participants preferring values of ankle push-off slightly higher than in non-amputee walking, possibly indicating other benefits. Restoring or augmenting ankle push-off work is not sufficient to improve energy economy for lower-limb amputees. Additional necessary conditions might include alternate timing or control, individualized tuning, or particular subject characteristics.

  9. Cultural consistency in Australian dental students from two different ethnic backgrounds.

    The objective of this study was to examine the value orientations of dental students from different ethnic backgrounds studying in Australian dental schools. A ninety-eight-item questionnaire was used to collect the data, including fifteen subscales developed consistent with the Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck value orientation model. To compare the value orientation structure and to determine if any ethnic differences existed, a multivariate analysis of variance called profile analysis was performed on the fifteen value subscales. Of the 401 participants, 30.2 percent were Anglo-Australian and 44.9 percent were Asian. The remainder (24.9 percent) were "Other-background residents" or "Other-international students." This article presents data from Asian (n=184) and Anglo-Australian (n=124) background respondents. Mean age was 21.7 years (s.e. 0.35 years) among Anglo-Australian and 20.8 years (s.e. 0.17 years) among Asians. Asians born overseas represented 70.7 percent (n=130) of this group. Of Australia-born Asians (n=54), 90.6 percent were first-generation Australians. When comparing their value profile, we found a significant association between ethnicity and value orientation profile scores (p<0.05). Despite the significant overall result, the strength of the association (eta(2)=0.007) indicated that this effect was trivial relative to the unexplained variance in value orientation. The findings suggest that, behind an apparent ethnic diversity, a single distinctive value profile might exist to which the majority of dental students subscribe.

  10. Optimization of adenosine 5'-triphosphate extraction for the measurement of acidogenic biomass utilizing whey wastewater.

    A set of experiments was carried out to maximize adenosine 5'-triphosphate (ATP) extraction efficiency from acidogenic culture using whey wastewater. ATP concentrations at different microbial concentrations increased linearly as microbial concentration decreased. More than 50% of ATP was extracted from the sample of 39 mg volatile suspended solids (VSS)/l compared to the sample of 2.8 g VSS/l. The ATP concentrations of the corresponding samples were 0.74+/-0.06 and 0.49+/-0.05 mg/l, respectively. For low VSS concentrations ranging from 39 to 92 mg/l, the extracted ATP concentration did not vary significantly at 0.73+/-0.01 mg ATP/l. Response surface methodology with a central composite in cube design for the experiments was used to locate the optimum for maximal ATP extraction with respect to boiling and bead beating treatments. The overall designed intervals were from 0 to 15 min and from 0 to 3 min for boiling and bead beating, respectively. The extracted ATP concentration ranged from 0.01 to 0.74 mg/l within the design boundary. The following is a partial cubic model where eta is the concentration of ATP and x ( k ) is the corresponding variable term (k=boiling time and bead beating time in order): eta=0.629+0.035x (1)-0.818x (2)-0.002x (1) x (2)-0.003x (1) (2) +0.254x (2) (2) +0.002x (1) (2) x (2). This model successfully approximates the response of ATP concentration with respect to the boiling- and bead beating-time. The condition for maximal ATP extraction was 5.6 min boiling without bead beating. The maximal ATP concentration using the model was 0.74 mg/l, which was identical to the experimental value at optimum condition for ATP extraction.

  11. THE THIRD US NAVAL OBSERVATORY CCD ASTROGRAPH CATALOG (UCAC3)

    The third US Naval Observatory (USNO) CCD Astrograph Catalog, UCAC3, was released at the IAU General Assembly on 2009 August 10. It is the first all-sky release in this series and contains just over 100 million objects, about 95 million of them with proper motions, covering about R = 8-16 mag. Current epoch positions are obtained from the observations with the 20 cm aperture USNO Astrograph's 'red lens', equipped with a 4k x 4k CCD. Proper motions are derived by combining these observations with over 140 ground- and space-based catalogs, including Hipparcos/Tycho and the AC2000.2, as well as unpublished measures of over 5000 plates from other astrographs. For most of the faint stars in the southern hemisphere, the Yale/San Juan first epoch plates from the Southern Proper Motion (SPM) program (YSJ1) form the basis for proper motions. These data are supplemented by all-sky Schmidt plate survey astrometry and photometry obtained from the SuperCOSMOS project, as well as 2MASS near-IR photometry. Major differences of UCAC3 data as compared with UCAC2 include a completely new raw data reduction with improved control over systematic errors in positions, significantly improved photometry, slightly deeper limiting magnitude, coverage of the north pole region, greater completeness by inclusion of double stars, and weak detections. This of course leads to a catalog which is not as 'clean' as UCAC2 and problem areas are outlined for the user in this paper. The positional accuracy of stars in UCAC3 is about 15-100 mas per coordinate, depending on magnitude, while the errors in proper motions range from 1 to 10 mas yr{sup -1} depending on magnitude and observing history, with a significant improvement over UCAC2 achieved due to the re-reduced SPM data and inclusion of more astrograph plate data unavailable at the time of UCAC2.

    Version 00 As distributed, the original evaluated data include cross sections represented in the form of a combination of resonance parameters and/or tabulated energy dependent cross sections, nominally at 0 Kelvin temperature. For use in applications this library has been processed into the form of temperature dependent cross sections at eight neutron reactor like temperatures, between 0 and 2100 Kelvin, in steps of 300 Kelvin. It has also been processed to five astrophysics like temperatures, 1, 10, 100 eV, 1 and 10 keV. For reference purposes, 300 Kelvin is approximately 1/40 eV, so that 1 eV is approximately 12,000 Kelvin. At each temperature the cross sections are tabulated and linearly interpolable in energy. POINT2004 contains all of the evaluations in the ENDF/B-VI general purpose library, which contains evaluations for 328 materials (isotopes or naturally occurring elemental mixtures of isotopes). No special purpose ENDF/B-VI libraries, such as fission products, thermal scattering, or photon interaction data are included. The majority of these evaluations are complete, in the sense that they include all cross sections over the energy range 10-5 eV to at least 20 MeV. However, the following are only partial evaluations that either contain only single reactions and no total cross section (Mg24, K41, Ti46, Ti47, Ti48, Ti50 and Ni59), or do not include energy dependent cross sections above the resonance region (Ar40, Mo92, Mo98, Mo100, In115, Sn120, Sn122 and Sn124). The CCC-638/TART20002 code package is recommended for use with these data. Codes within TART can be used to display these data or to run calculations using these data.

As part of the NASA's Carbon Monitoring System, we developed a methodology based on a combination of ground inventory and space observations to develop spatially refined carbon pools and fluxes including the gross emissions and sequestration of carbon at each 1-ha land unit across the forestlands in the continental United States (CONUS) for the period of 2006-2010. Here, we provide the magnitude and uncertainty of multiple pools and fluxes of the US forestlands and outline the observational requirements to reduce the uncertainties for developing national climate mitigation policies based on the carbon sequestration capacity of the US forest lands.   14. Protein intake and lumbar bone density: the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA).

    Dietary protein has been shown to increase urinary Ca excretion in randomised controlled trials, and diets high in protein may have detrimental effects on bone health; however, studies examining the relationship between dietary protein and bone health have conflicting results. In the present study, we examined the relationship between dietary protein (total, animal and vegetable protein) and lumbar spine trabecular volumetric bone mineral density (vBMD) among participants enrolled in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (n 1658). Protein intake was assessed using a FFQ obtained at baseline examination (2000-2). Lumbar spine vBMD was measured using quantitative computed tomography (2002-5), on average 3 years later. Multivariable linear and robust regression techniques were used to examine the associations between dietary protein and vBMD. Sex and race/ethnicity jointly modified the association of dietary protein with vBMD (P for interaction = 0·03). Among white women, higher vegetable protein intake was associated with higher vBMD (P for trend = 0·03), after adjustment for age, BMI, physical activity, alcohol consumption, current smoking, educational level, hormone therapy use, menopause and additional dietary factors. There were no consistently significant associations for total and animal protein intakes among white women or other sex and racial/ethnic groups. In conclusion, data from the present large, multi-ethnic, population-based study suggest that a higher level of protein intake, when substituted for fat, is not associated with poor bone health. Differences in the relationship between protein source and race/ethnicity of study populations may in part explain the inconsistent findings reported previously.

  15. High voltage breakdown studies of sol-gel MgO-ZrO 2 insulation coatings under various pressures at 298 K and 77 K

    High voltage breakdown (HV bd) tests were performed to investigate electrical properties of high temperature MgO-ZrO 2 insulation coatings on long-length stainless steel (SS) tapes under various pressures at room temperature (298 K) and liquid nitrogen temperature (77 K) for applications of HTS/LTS coils and magnets. After solutions were prepared from Mg and Zr based precursors, solvent and chelating agent, the coating were fabricated on SS substrates using reel-to-reel sol-gel technique. Coating thicknesses for 4, 8, and 9 dippings were about 7, 12, and 13 μm, respectively, and thickness of epoxy-impregnated samples (stycast 2850 FT/24 LV) were measured to be 32 μm. The pressure from 0 GPa to 0.54 GPa was applied on to test couples, the stycast thicknesses between the layers were varied 32-20 μm. Thickness of the coatings and epoxy-impregnated using stycast were determined by using environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM). The resistance, capacitance, and HV bd of the samples were measured by using standard machines HP 439 a high resistance meter, 161 analog digital capacitance meter and model 200-02R high voltage power supply, respectively. Electric strength and dielectric constant were calculated at 298 and 77 K under various pressures. The high HV bd, and electric strength values of the samples were 2.84 kV and 45.91 kV/mm, respectively. ESEM observation revealed that arcing spots in the insulation coatings become larger and deeper for higher HV bd’s.

    Based on the imperative social demand for lighter vehicles, lightweight materials such as aluminum alloys are expected to replace conventional steels in many automotive applications. In automotive parts manufacturing, most of the components produced in conventional stamping operations are geometrically complex as the blanks are subjected to both stretching and drawing deformations. However, aluminum alloys have intrinsic drawbacks, such as the inferior formability of these materials, although the effects of the weight reduction in terms of performance are highly promising. In an effort to improve the formability of aluminum alloy sheets, the surface friction stir process is proposed in this study. This process locally modifies the surface of automotive aluminum alloy sheets via stirring and advancing on the surface of the sheet, similar to the Friction Stir Welding (FSW) process that utilizes a probe without a pin. When the surface of the sheet is modified locally by stirring, dynamic recrystallization due to the severe shear deformation along with heat resulting from the friction occur due to changes in the micro-structure and mechanical properties in the stirred zone, while the dislocation density and grain size refinement are curtailed. In this work, the drawability performance of AA5052-H32 sheets (thickness 1.5 mm) that were welded using the surface friction stir process was experimentally and numerically investigated in cylindrical cup drawing tests. When applied to AA5052-H32 automotive sheets, the surface friction stir process improved the drawability of the entire aluminum alloy sheet. For numerical simulations, the non-quadratic anisotropic yield function Yld2000-2d was employed along with isotropic hardening, while the formability was evaluated by utilizing theoretical forming limit diagrams (FLD) based on Hill's bifurcation and M-K theories.

    In this paper we provide a major upgrade of the work presented in \\citet{cam}, aiming at the extension of the ICRF at optical wavelengths in regions of special astronomical interest, using observations from the Bordeaux and Valinhos meridian circles. Along with the new fields, the main differences, when compared to the first release, are: a much larger sky coverage, the replacement of the AC2000 by its upgraded version AC2000.2 as one of the first epoch astrometrical sources, inclusion of Tycho-2 and 2MASS photometry when available, and the correction for a magnitude equation on the Valinhos right ascension system as well.     Globally, terrestrial ecosystems have absorbed about 30% of anthropogenic emissions over the period 20007-2007 and inter-hemispheric gradients indicate that a significant fraction of terrestrial carbon sequestration must be north of the Equator. We present a compilation of the CO2, CO, CH4 and N2O balance of Europe following a dual constraint approach in which (1) a land-based balance derived mainly from ecosystem carbon inventories and (2) a land-based balance derived from flux measurements are confronted with (3) the atmospheric-based balance derived from inversion informed by measurements of atmospheric GHG concentrations. Good agreement between the GHG balances based on fluxes (1249 ± 545 Tg C in CO2-eq y-1), inventories (1299 ± 200 Tg C in CO2-eq y-1) and inversions (1210 ± 405 Tg C in CO2-eq y-1) increases our confidence that current European GHG balances are accurate. However, the uncertainty remains large and largely lacks formal estimates. Given that European net land-atmosphere balances are determined by a few dominant fluxes, the uncertainty of these key components needs to be formally estimated before efforts could be made to reduce the overall uncertainty. The dual-constraint approach confirmed that the European land surface, including inland waters and urban areas, is a net source for CO2, CO, CH4 and N2O. However, for all ecosystems except croplands, C uptake exceeds C release and us such 210 ± 70 Tg C y-1 from fossil fuel burning is removed from the atmosphere and sequestered in both terrestrial and inland aquatic ecosystems. If the C cost for ecosystem management is taken into account, the net uptake of ecosystems was estimated to decrease by 45% but still indicates substantial C-sequestration. Also, when the balance is extended from CO2 towards the main GHGs, C-uptake by terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems is compensated for by emissions of GHGs.     The fourth United States Naval Observatory (USNO) CCD Astrograph Catalog, UCAC4, was released in 2012 August (double-sided DVD and CDS data center Vizier catalog I/322). It is the final release in this series and contains over 113 million objects; over 105 million of them with proper motions (PMs). UCAC4 is an updated version of UCAC3 with about the same number of stars also covering all-sky. Bugs were fixed, Schmidt plate survey data were avoided, and precise five-band photometry was added for about half the stars. Astrograph observations have been supplemented for bright stars by FK6, Hipparcos, and Tycho-2 data to compile a UCAC4 star catalog complete from the brightest stars to about magnitude R = 16. Epoch 1998-2004 positions are obtained from observations with the 20 cm aperture USNO Astrograph's "red lens," equipped with a 4k by 4k CCD. Mean positions and PMs are derived by combining these observations with over 140 ground- and space-based catalogs, including Hipparcos/Tycho and the AC2000.2, as well as unpublished measures of over 5000 plates from other astrographs. For most of the faint stars in the southern hemisphere, the first epoch plates from the Southern Proper Motion program form the basis for PMs, while the Northern Proper Motion first epoch plates serve the same purpose for the rest of the sky. These data are supplemented by 2MASS near-IR photometry for about 110 million stars and five-band (B, V, g, r, i) APASS data for over 51 million stars. Thus the published UCAC4, as were UCAC3 and UCAC2, is a compiled catalog with the UCAC observational program being a major component. The positional accuracy of stars in UCAC4 at mean epoch is about 15-100 mas per coordinate, depending on magnitude, while the formal errors in PMs range from about 1 to 10 mas yr-1 depending on magnitude and observing history. Systematic errors in PMs are estimated to be about 1-4 mas yr-1.

    Knudsen effusion mass spectrometric measurements have been performed in the temperature range of 850-950 K over four three-phase mixtures, each phase mixture having at least one phase lying on the MnO-TeO2 binary line of the Mn-Te-O phase diagram, and the rest of the phases lying above this binary line. The three-phase mixtures investigated are Mn3O4 + MnO + Mn6Te5O16; Mn3O4 + Mn6Te5O16 + MnTeO3; Mn3O4 + Mn3TeO6 + MnTeO3; and Mn3TeO6 + MnTeO3 + Mn2Te3O8. The vapor pressures of the gaseous species TeO2, TeO, and Te2 over these three-phase mixtures were measured, and various heterogeneous solid-gas reactions were evaluated along with the homogeneous gas-phase reaction TeO2(g) + 0.5Te2(g) = 2 TeO(g). The enthalpy and Gibbs free energy of formation of the four ternary Mn-Te-O phases were deduced at T = 900 K. These values (in kJ.mol-1), along with the estimated uncertainties in them are Delta(f)H(o)m = 4150 +/- 19, 752 +/- 11, 1710 +/- 11, 1924 +/- 40, and Delta(f)G(o)m= 2835 +/- 28, 511 +/- 11, 1254 +/- 19, 1238 +/- 38, for Mn6Te5O16, MnTeO3, Mn3TeO6, and Mn2Te3O8, respectively. A thermochemical assessment was made to examine the conditions under which the ternary Mn-Te-O phases could be formed on a stainless steel clad of mixed-oxide-fueled (MO2; M = U + Pu) fast breeder nuclear reactors. The phase Mn3TeO6 could be formed when the fuel is even slightly hyperstoichiometric (O/M = 2.0002) and the phase Mn6Te5O16 could also be formed when O/M = 2.0004. The threshold tellurium potential for the formation of Mn3TeO6 is higher than that for MnTe0.80 and CrTe1.10, but is comparable to that for MoTe1.10, and even lower than that for FeTe0.81 or NiTe0.63.

    evolving yield stresses and Lankford coefficients (r-value) at various temperatures with specimens in 0°, 45° and 90° to the rolling direction. Besides, thermally-activated deformation mechanisms, dynamic strain ageing and dislocation climb, are identified to control the material deformation at the ambient-to-warm temperature range. For biaxial loading condition, the hydraulic bulge test has been performed and the evaluated effective stress-strain curve is found to be identical to that from uniaxial tests. A new piece-wised temperature-dependent phenomenological constitutive model has been developed to describe and predict the evolving stress-strain curves within the experimental condition. The power-law model is chosen for temperature ranges from 25° to 100° where negative strain rate sensitivity is observed. At elevated temperatures, a new model has been developed and expressed as the product of two power-law models. This proposed model has been proved to be capable of capturing both strain hardening and thermal softening behaviors of material, even for perfect plasticity with large strain conditions. To account for the directionality of the material properties in sheet metal, Yld2000-2d, which has been proved to be one of the most accurate and efficient yield functions for aluminum alloys in numerical analysis, is selected as the anisotropic yield function in this work. Eight parameters in Yld2000-2d have been determined and calibrated using the experimental results from uniaxial and biaxial testing of AA5182-O. Moreover, those eight parameters are fitted in to the temperature-dependent functions, hence the evolution of yield surface is predictable in response to the temperature changes. It is noticed that the material carries more anisotropy at ambient temperatures and tends to approach the isotropic behavior when the temperature elevated to 300°.     Objective: To explore the influences of body mass index (BMI) on blood pressure control rate in elderly coronary heart disease (CHD) outpatients with hypertension. Methods: In this multicenter, non-intervention and cross-sectional survey, the elderly coronary heart disease patients with hypertension aged 60 years or over were recruited from 165 hospitals in 21 provinces or cities across China from April to July 2011, and 5 140 cases of elderly CHD patients with hypertension were finally included into the study. The cases were divided into low BMI group (n=130 cases), normal body mass index (BMI) group (n=1 390 cases), overweight (n=2 418 cases), obesity group (n=662 cases) according to the different levels of BMI. Clinical data and blood pressure control rate were compared among the groups, and relationships of different BMI levels with blood pressure control rate were analyzed by the binary classification unconditioned Logistic regression equation. Results: There was a statistically significant difference in blood pressure control rate of general population, men and women patients among low BMI group, normal BMI group, overweight and obesity group (χ(2)=66.346, 58.995, 26.044, respectively, P<0.001), blood pressure failure rate in obesity group (73.7%) was higher than that in overweight group (65.8%) and normal BMI group (57.5%) (P<0.05), and overweight group was also higher than normal BMI group (P<0.05); blood pressure failure rate in obesity men was higher than that in normal BMI and low BMI group (P<0.05), overweight group was higher than normal BMI group (P<0.05); blood pressure failure rate in obesity women was higher than that in normal BMI and low BMI group (P<0.05).
