    Wetland farm diversification program in the district of Bojonegoro, Tulungagung, and Ponorogo can not provide an optimal contribution to the income of farmers caused because farmers are not able to cultivate high value-added commodities due to limited capital. This study aims to identify the characteristics of farming, capital pattern, stakeholder role, to analyze farming to know the pattern of planting suggestions and prospects, and to formulate capital facilitation strategy. Farming capital is obtained through loans in financial institutions with different patterns. Small farmers tend to utilize savings and credit cooperatives, microcredit, and loan sharks, while farmers with large wetland holdings tend to utilize commercial banks. P enelitian using descriptive method of farming profit analysis, and SWOT. The government through the banking institutions have provided much facilitation in the form of low-interest loans with flexible payment method. The generic strategy of selected capital facilitation is to empower farmers through farmer groups who have the capability in managing the capital needs of their members.

    Financing constraints on beef cattle farm nowadays have received attention by the government through distributed various assistance programs and program loans through implementing banks. The existing financing schemes are all still conventional yet sharia-based. The purpose of this research is to formulate financing pattern for sharia beef cattle farm. A qualitative and descriptive approach is used to formulate the pattern by considering the profit-sharing practices of the beef cattle farmers. The results of this study have formulated a financing pattern that integrates government, implementing banks, beef cattle farmers group and cooperative as well as breeders as its members. This pattern of financing is very accommodating of local culture that develops in rural communities. It is expected to be an input, especially in formulating a business financing policy Sharia-based beef cattle breeding.

    The government of Indonesia has taken steps to foster economic growth in the eastern region of the country by creating a transportation infrastructure. While many parts of the region still lack sea transportation, the rate of economic growth in the region has outstripped that of the nation since 1993. In this region, clove was the major cash crop, but trade regulations have reduced the profit in clove farming. Maluku was once renowned for its fishing, but this industry is now dominated by big investors, and the region depends upon aid for backward villages and upon loans from nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) that are funneled through local self-help groups. The Yayasan Indonesia Sejahtera (YIS) has worked in eastern Indonesia since 1974 and is planning to collect data on its most urgent problems and to fund the income-generation project proposals submitted by NGOs. Among these programs are foundations that provide funds for fishermen to purchase motorized boats, loans to groups of traders, and loans for fishermen and for breeding goats and chickens. Women can also procure loans to sell groceries or for farming activities. The self-help groups of fishermen face obstacles when the weather prohibits fishing, and the farmers have problems obtaining good breeders and combating disease among their livestock. The NGOs combat problems caused by a lack of field workers and by limited funds as well as the obstacles caused by the geography of the region. Members of the self-help groups are improving their knowledge and skills, and the NGOs are improving their management capabilities to deal with these challenges.

    Background HIV/AIDS negatively impacts poverty alleviation and food security, which reciprocally hinder the rapid scale up and effectiveness of HIV care programs. Nyanza province has the highest HIV prevalence (15.3%), and is the third highest contributor (2.4 million people) to rural poverty in Kenya. Thus, we tested the feasibility of providing a micro-irrigation pump to HIV-positive farmers in order to evaluate its impact on health and economic advancement among HIV-positive patients and their families. Methods Thirty HIV-positive patients enrolled in the Family AIDS Care and Education Services (FACES) program in Kisumu, Kenya were provided a micro-financed loan to receive an irrigation pump and farming guidance from KickStart, the developer of the pump. Economic data, CD4 counts, household health and loan repayment history were collected 12 months after the pumps were distributed. Results Mean annual family income increased by $1,332 over baseline. CD4 counts did not change significantly. Though income increased, only three (10%) participants had paid off more than a quarter of the loan. Conclusions We demonstrated the feasibility of an income-generating micro-irrigation intervention among HIV-positive patients and the collection of health and economic data. While family income improved significantly, loan repayment rates were low- likely complicated by the drought that occurred in Kenya during the intervention period. PMID:20459841
